Observing

Phil took us to school. He's got the key to a 110-year-old telescope that sits in its own tiny castle, adrift in all the modern development of the university, still smoothly tracking stars with careful counterbalancing and a wind-up gearing. Its a 6 inch refractor in a dome operated by pulleys and rope. I saw the bands of Jupiter and 4 of its satellites with me own eye-balls!
