I heard an interview with Boots Riley on the radio yesterday, and it reminded me of when I saw him speak a few years ago. Uhoh....six? years ago?

He was the keynote speaker at an event arranged by eager college kids who neglected to inform him that he was the keynote speaker until he showed up. He gave an absolutely great speech. He touched on a lot of things, but what I've taken from it most is the belief that logic, debate, and public speaking should be a basic part of public education. Not because he spoke to that point, but because the way he spoke made it pretty clear that he spent a lot of effort learning to give speeches.

Having five binders of negative nearby, I checked to see if I still had a picture of that speech....
